Chicago to Iowa to Denver

July 6, 2011

I was sad to wake up to leave Chicago. I had such a wonderful time there, and wished I could see more.
We packed up the van and went to Northwestern to drive around. It had a very cute campus and location. We then went the The University of Chicago. This was also very cute and kind of old school. Outside of the campus was a dump, sketchy area. We drove passed the Robie House then decided to park so as to get a closer look.

We ended up walking around the campus for quite a while.

Later we headed out but stopped for an impromptu tourist thing. We ended up visiting Frank Lloyd Wright's home. It was a great, but long hour tour. After the tour we drove by a church thingy designed by FLW then headed to Iowa.

We got into Iowa pretty late. The family greeted us at the door, including their friendly dog, Rocket. Sean and I agreed that we both felt at home in this mid-western home. The family was wonderful and immediately broke out some healthy snacks for us to eat before bed. The interesting thing about this family is that they were no strangers to letting strangers into their home for the night. They used to host foreign exchange students.

We both slept well, and the family dog slept at my feet on their leather couch :)

Breakfast was served to us hot, which was such a nice gesture. The daughter, soon to be senior in high school, Mady was kind enough to take us into the Des Moines downtown.

We saw the sculpture garden as well as the capitol and a temple. It was a quick tour as we had 10 hours of driving ahead of us.

We arrived at the home just outside of Denver around 8pm. This has given me some time to catch up on these blogs. They're kind of starting to be a pain. If I don't have the time to write, I feel so far behind and am unable to remember what I would have liked to posted.
